Resume Blogging
Submitted by Pek on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 19:43It's been a week since EpCon and I'm still trying to catch up in school and get through job interviews. What a way to start off the school term - It's crazy busy, but I'm loving every minute of it!
EpCon rush killed off my first New Year's resolution for daily blogging, lol. I'll have to revise that to taking some time every night to just reflect on the day's work. I should be able to blog often enough, but we'll see how that goes :)
Back to 'Loo
Submitted by Pek on Sat, 01/02/2010 - 23:36It's my last term here at Waterloo as a student - and my second time I'm doing my 4B term with a whole new timetable. What happened to my first 4B term in Winter 2009 is a long story and one I'll unravel slowly, lol.
I'm living in Kitchener this term. It's my first time being so far away from campus. I've lived in UWP residence (note: 5 minutes walk from Engineering classes) for 4 terms, off-campus house on Sunview Street for two terms (note: 15 minutes walk from Engineering classes), and in Velocity for two terms (note: 10 minutes walk from Engineering classes). I think my bus ride itself this term is at least 20 minutes.
Thus, I don't plan to approach this term like my other terms being a student who was constantly on campus. The house I'm living in is beautiful and cozy. I think I will be spending more time at home than usual :)
I also no longer have such a stressful mindset that trapped me in my ideal image of a student. It feels like I've matured a lot in that respect. Currently in the transition between "student" and professional, this term I want to tie the many loose ends that I could not tie last year.
New Year Resolutions
Submitted by Pek on Fri, 01/01/2010 - 23:48I usually like to form New Year resolutions after reviewing the year thoroughly, but I haven't quite had a chance to think that through enough yet - will get to it soon. These five come to mind at the moment; I will likely revisit this in the coming week.
Daily Blogging
I want to try blogging daily. This means it will likely turn out more "bloggy" than a series of essays, although I plan to still have the occasional lengthy essay. I've been contemplating whether it would be too frequent, but I figured it'd work out since I hope to learn something new every day and would like to reflect and write at least once daily. On that note, there's something compelling about finally publishing writing; it's completely different from when I leave writing not quite ready to publish. So with daily blogging, maybe it will push me to finally polish my vast semi-finished writing collection.
Website Development
I launched this site with minimal features - good enough to meet my hard deadline since I had consistently missed my soft deadlines. I had not even completed my taxonomy structure for the blog posts, lol. Nevertheless, the ball's started rolling - it's exciting and I look forward to evolving the site.
Mini Experiments
I will continue devising and executing mini experiments to test reality and assumptions. I'm tired of taking life too seriously and poking around is fun :D
Relying on Others
I am perhaps too independent and self-reliant. It's not that bad, but life could be better, haha. This was the critical experiment in 2009 that blew up in my face. It was not unexpected, but necessary to push rusty gears into motion.
Negotiations
The most critical skill I will be honing in 2010 will be my negotiations skills.
